Y'all are sleeping on Canada

On September 2, 2026, our founder posted a take about the Canadian dollar. Within five hours the replies had done the math, offered him trades, and diagnosed him as a bot. We preserved the evidence.

The mathematicians

First on the scene. They did not come to argue about Canada. They came because a number was wrong on the internet.

1 Million USD is better than 722,365 USD

Why wouldn't you just take the 1M in USD and convert it to cad for a free 300k?

Adam Batstone@AdamBatstone · Sep 2

If you're bullish on Canada then take both sides of the trade. Take the $1M USD today and immediately convert to ~$1.5M CAD. Now you're 50% richer and don't need to take a political stance either way. Just math.

The arbitrage desk

Some readers saw a man announce he values a dollar at 72 cents and recognized a business opportunity.

Dave Y. Kim@dygk_0x1 · Sep 2

Can I give you $1,000,000 CAD and you give me $1,000,000 USD?

Trust arrived in stages. Mostly it did not arrive.

Alex Borkin@alex_borkin · Sep 2

Is this engagement bait or are you really bad at math?

The philosophers

One reply transcended the exchange rate entirely.

MikeHapps@KingPStream · Sep 2

The comments fail to realize this isn't about money. This is Buddhist philosophy on why more money is evil because it feeds into our desires and so it's better to have less. That's why I take Canadian peso every day

1M in CAD barely gets you a house... wtf are you talking about.

Joshua Banigan@banigan_joshua · Sep 2

You just said I would rather have $722,000 over $1,000,000 because reasons. They are both fiat currencies neither one has value. This completely explains the Canadian economists in a nutshell.

The convert

And then, proof the post worked. One reader looked past the math and saw the dream.

Grant Walker@beardedbestie · Sep 2

Idk I liked Seattle climate so much... that's basically just Canada Jr, right? Maybe I should seriously consider it. My dad was born in Canada

Why this page exists

One post. Five hours. Eighty-six replies, two men offering to take the other side of the trade, and an American in Seattle rethinking his citizenship. Nobody was paid to care.

For the record: he kept the take up. Y'all are still sleeping on Canada.
