Best Agency for Reddit Citations for LLMs
Paul Xue · September 9, 2026

The short answer
No agency can guarantee LLM citations from Reddit. Reddit held a steady 3.8% share of ChatGPT Search citations from 18 July to 7 August 2026, then dropped to a 0.5% average between 14 and 17 August, an 86% fall in a day. It had already fallen from about 7% to under 1% in June and climbed back to around 5%. Across three of our programmes we tracked 1,367 citations and the threads we placed took roughly 60% of them, but the durable version of this is a product people talk about and a subreddit of your own where they can do it.
People search this exact phrase, so let me answer it honestly. There is no best agency for Reddit citations in LLMs, because there is no agency that can guarantee them. We run Reddit programmes for a living and we cannot guarantee them either.
Here is what happened on 14 August 2026. Reddit had held a steady 3.8% share of ChatGPT Search citations from 18 July through 7 August. On the 14th it collapsed to under 1%, and the 14 to 17 August average was 0.5%. That is an 86% drop, overnight, with nothing published or unpublished on Reddit's side. Google AI Overviews slipped 11.3% over the same window and AI Mode fell 30.5%.
Any agency that had sold a guaranteed citation number for Q3 was, that Friday, selling something it could not deliver.
Why can nobody promise you Reddit citations in ChatGPT?
Because the buyer of your content is a retrieval pipeline you do not have a contract with.
The best current explanation is that ChatGPT Search started leaning on the site: operator in its fan-out queries, jumping from about 0.4% to nearly 17% of them on 8 August. Reddit is not a site: friendly source. Six days later its citations were gone. That is a change to a query rewriter, made by a team that has never heard of your brand, and it moved more citation volume than any agency's content calendar will move in a year.
It also went the other way. Reddit had already fallen from roughly 7% to under 1% in mid-June 2026 and climbed back to about 5% over the following two months. Two collapses and one full recovery in a single summer.
So the honest sales pitch is a probability, not a promise. We can raise your odds of being in the retrieved set. We cannot set the size of the set.
What can an agency actually control?
Share, not volume.
Across three of our programmes we tracked 1,367 citations in AI answers. The threads we placed were 27% of the distinct Reddit threads the engines cited and took roughly 60% of the citations. First citations landed between 7 hours and 2 days after publishing. I wrote up the full numbers in what share of AI citations comes from Reddit.
A US insurance client is the cleaner example, because their starting position was bad. Two negative threads were outranking them. Over the programme, 74 of the 88 keywords those two threads ranked for fell past the first page, their share of citations in the category went from 30% to 34.7%, and 64% of the Reddit citations that appeared in AI answers about them came from threads in their own footprint.
Read those two numbers together. The pool grew 4.7 points. The proportion of the pool that was ours was the whole result. When ChatGPT halves the pool, share is the only thing you still own.
Does the best Reddit work even look like an agency?
Not really, and the best result we have ever produced says so.
The pattern under every programme that worked is the same. Somebody built a product people liked enough to bring up unprompted, and the job was to be present where that was already happening. One client mentioned that organic discussions about them had started appearing on Reddit before we ran a single campaign. That is the leading indicator. Nothing an agency writes substitutes for it.
The version of this I am proudest of is boring. A router client of ours is launching against competitors who are all fighting on price, which buys signups and churns them. Instead we went through the Reddit complaints about every router on the market, found that caching and fallback chains were the two things people kept raising, and shipped the launch as: this is the router built by the people who actually read your complaints. Redditors will forgive a lot, including a rough product, if you are visibly listening.
What should you do instead of buying citations?
Give your customers a room.
Create a subreddit for your product and staff it with real people using brand-named handles. Not sock puppets. We hired our six Reddit specialists through Reddit job postings and every one of them posts under a handle that says who they work for, which costs us some upvotes and buys back the only thing that matters when a moderator looks at your history.
A global hotel group we spoke to has the mature version of this by accident. Their unofficial subreddit is moderated by one of their own hotel general managers, and a customer care rep answers complaints in it. Nobody planned that. It is worth more than the paid campaigns running alongside it, and their team now tracks LLM citations next to followers, karma and sentiment on the same slide.
The mechanics are unglamorous. Promote your two or three most active community members to moderators. Run a monthly AMA with somebody who has real authority, not a social manager. Do a giveaway that costs you something. Answer in the thread even when the thread is unhappy, and know where the line is: one client made us pull a next step from a report because it would have turned Reddit into a second support desk. That was the right call and it is a real constraint on this whole approach.
For what to write once you have the room, how to grow a subreddit from zero covers the first ninety days.
So who is the best agency for this?
Whoever will show you their measurement before they show you a number.
Ask three questions on the call. Which engines do you track, and can I see three screenshots of real citations. What is my share of cited threads today, not my citation count. What happens to my retainer in a month like August, when the channel itself loses 86% of its share of one engine.
An agency that answers those has a method. An agency that answers with a guaranteed number of citations is quoting you a figure that a query rewriter can delete on a Friday afternoon, and everyone selling it knows that now.
What we will actually sign up for
Zero to one customer talking about you on Reddit, unprompted, in public.
That is the piece we can do, and every other number above depends on it. We will read the complaints in your category and tell you which two your product has to answer. We will open your subreddit, staff it under handles that say who we work for, run the first AMA with someone from your team who can actually answer, and hand moderator status to the first two or three people who show up and stay. When one of your customers writes the post we did not write, that is the milestone we are selling.
What we will not put in writing is a citation count. On 14 August the channel lost 86% of its share of one engine in a day, and it will happen again in some direction. If a first happy customer post and a growing share of the threads the engines already cite is worth a retainer to you, book a call. If you need a guaranteed number, we are the wrong shop and so is everyone else.
