Reddit Ads Get Clicks but No Customers? Here’s What to Check

The short answer
Reddit ads can generate clicks without customers when tracking misses completed conversions, the ad attracts the wrong audience, or visitors encounter friction after clicking. Verify a real signup or purchase, then trace the journey from landing visit to activation and payment to identify where to test a change.
Your cheapest Reddit clicks could be the most expensive part of your marketing.
They make the campaign look efficient while giving you a reason to keep funding it. But if those visitors never become customers, a low cost per click tells you very little about whether the spend is worthwhile.
We once sent 66,753 clicks to two blog posts with no signup button. We could count the traffic, but we couldn’t tell you what it was worth.
That’s an obvious gap. Other gaps are harder to spot: an ad that sparks curiosity instead of buying intent, a page that changes the offer, or a signup process that loses interested buyers. Here’s how to find the problem before paying to send more people into it.
Missing Sales or Missing Data?
Before concluding that your Reddit ads aren’t converting, complete a test signup or purchase and confirm the account or order exists in your system. Follow that action through website analytics and Reddit’s Events Manager, checking that each event reflects a completed action. Clicking “Buy” doesn’t mean a payment succeeded, just as submitting a form doesn’t guarantee an account was created.
You also need to check whether the same conversion is being counted twice. Reddit recommends using its Pixel and Conversions API together, but requires event deduplication when both report the same event. Even with a working setup, reports may disagree because they assign credit differently: Reddit can count a purchase after an ad view, while website analytics may credit another source. Compare attribution windows, dates and time zones before treating the difference as missing customers.
Once measurement is reliable, trace visitors through the conversion path:
ad click → landing visit → signup → first useful product action → paid customer.
Our Reddit marketing funnel guide covers those stages.
For this diagnosis, measure how many people reach each step relative to the previous one, separating campaigns and devices where possible. A gap between clicks and visits points you toward loading, redirects, or measurement, while a gap between visits and signups calls for closer inspection of audience fit and the page.
A drop identifies where to investigate, but it won’t establish the cause. Compare visitors with similar time to convert, since recent signups may still be evaluating the product, and treat a small sample as a question to explore before overhauling the campaign.
Are Your Reddit Ads Buying the Right Clicks?
If visitors reach the site but rarely take the next step, check what the campaign is designed to deliver. Reddit’s Traffic objective optimizes for traffic actions, while Sales and Lead generation can optimize for supported conversion events when the required signal integration is available. Confirm the selected event is meaningful for your business rather than simply easy to generate.
The creative needs the same scrutiny. A provocative headline can attract readers who enjoy the subject but have little use for the product. Compare ads on qualified signups or purchases alongside click-through rate, and look for differences in audience, promise, and destination.
Our Reddit ads examples show why that distinction matters: ads that attracted more clicks did not consistently produce more leads. Our Reddit advertising setup guide covers objectives and targeting.
Make the Landing Page Keep Its Promise
Once the campaign is reaching relevant people, check whether its destination delivers what they came for. Someone clicking an ad for a migration checklist should find that checklist, with a clear explanation of how it relates to the product. A generic homepage or mandatory sales call changes the offer.
Inspect that experience on a phone through Reddit, including any move to another domain. Check that the content loads, the price is readable, and overlays don’t block the next step. PageSpeed Insights can help investigate performance, but complete the journey yourself to catch confusing copy, broken forms, and buttons hidden by the keyboard.
Consider this fictional SaaS landing page. The changes below are recommendations, not measured results:
Before: An ad promises a “CSV migration checklist,” but the page opens with “Transform your data operations,” an abstract illustration, and a “Book a demo” button. The form asks for a phone number, budget, and company size without showing the checklist.
After: The headline becomes “Check your CSV migration before you move,” followed by a readable checklist preview and a “Read the checklist” button. A separate product explanation covers the trial, price, and signup.
- Headline and proof: Name the promised task and show the resource so visitors can recognize what they came for.
- Offer and button: Deliver the checklist as advertised, keeping the product trial clearly separate.
- Form: Request only information needed at that step; if email is required, disclose that in the ad and explain what follows submission.
Follow the Signup Through to Revenue
A working landing page can still send people into an onboarding process that prevents them from experiencing the product. Test account verification, the return from email to the app, and the first useful task, such as completing an import. Preserve campaign source information across the handoff to connect acquisition with outcomes.
If users complete that task but don’t pay, investigate what makes upgrading worthwhile, how pricing is presented, and whether the product meets the expectation set by the ad. For a sales-led business, follow inquiries through qualification, response, booked meeting, and opportunity creation. Form fills alone won’t tell you whether the campaign is bringing suitable prospects.
Before increasing spend, make sure you can answer four questions:
- Can we verify a completed conversion and trust how it is counted?
- Where does the first meaningful drop occur among visitors with enough time to convert?
- Does the ad’s promise survive the mobile page, signup, and first product experience?
- Who owns the next test, and which business outcome will show whether it helped?
Before increasing spend, identify where interested visitors stop moving toward a purchase and give the right person responsibility for fixing it. Test that change against completed actions and customer quality. A lower cost per click only becomes valuable when you understand what those clicks produce.
