The situation
Shopify merchants don’t browse for order-editing software — they ask. Type “how do I let customers edit their Shopify orders” into Google or ChatGPT and a finished answer comes back with a short list of citations, and Reddit threads dominate that list. Whoever wrote the threads wrote the answer.
Cleverific makes order editing and post-purchase upsells for Shopify, and its buyers’ questions are exactly the ones the engines answer this way: address typos, wrong sizes, the 180-day order lock, 3PL sync, self-serve cancellations. So over the past year we seeded those threads ourselves — 94 posts and 52 comments across r/ecommerce, r/dropshipping, r/dropship, r/automation, r/ecomshops and a dozen smaller subreddits, one buying question per thread.
Then we tracked what the engines actually cite. Over three weeks of monitoring, Google’s AI Mode, AI Overviews and ChatGPT produced 1,482 Reddit citations while answering order-editing queries. 913 of them — 62% — point at content we put there, and 49 of the 210 Reddit threads cited are ours.
