Reddit SEO and AEO strategy

One thread, two surfaces

You already know Reddit is a top citation source for AI answers and a page-one fixture for buying queries. What you don't have is threads in that pool that say what you want said, and stay up. Right now the citation on your money queries is someone else's thread.

What SEO and AEO teams get out of it

  • 2 days

    To a position-1 citation

A Papermark post went up, and two days later it was the first source in an AI answer. Cleverific's first citation came seven hours after publishing.

  • 56%

Citation share on the money queries

Of the Reddit citations on Papermark's buying queries, 266 in three weeks. For Cleverific it was 62%, 913 citations.

  • 1,563

    From a sub you own

Citations to r/arist in nine weeks. The engines don't discount an owned subreddit; to them it's still reddit.com, and nothing there gets removed.

  • 934

    Still cited a year later

Citations to Arist's 2025 threads inside the tracking window, a year after they went up. It compounds the way content should.

The boring method, and the numbers it produces

Reddit is one of the sources AI answers cite most, and it holds a block on page one for most buying queries. You know that already. The hard part is getting threads into that pool that say what you'd want said, and keeping them up. Our method is boring on purpose: one buying question per thread, titled the way buyers phrase it to an AI, which is also how they search. Then we point Promptwatch at the money queries and count.

For Papermark that was 266 citations in three weeks, 56% of the Reddit citations on its queries, and a post that was the first source in an answer two days after it went up. For Cleverific it was 913 citations, 62%, and seven hours from publishing to the first one. The biggest lever is a subreddit you own. In someone else's sub you write around the moderators, the flair rules and the removal risk, and the question has to exist already. In yours, you write the question and the answer. r/arist drew 1,563 citations in nine weeks and 27 of its threads have been the first source in an answer. Across 13 clients, a thread in a sub we run is cited 24 times on average against 7 for an untouched one, and names the brand 69% of the time against 5%.

  1. 01

Title it the way buyers ask

The phrasing someone types into ChatGPT is the phrasing they type into Google. One asset, two surfaces.

  2. 02

    Own the subreddit

Your sub, your questions, your answers, nothing removed by someone else's mods. The citation path is yours end to end.

  3. 03

Point Promptwatch at the money queries

Citations tracked by prompt, week over week, so AEO is a line on the roadmap with a number next to it.

  4. 04

Beside the calendar, not instead of it

The threads answer, the blog explains. It slots in next to your content program and feeds it the questions buyers actually ask.

Get started in three steps

  1. Step 1: Apply in two minutes

Tell us the company, who buys from you and what you want Reddit to do for it.

  2. Step 2: Talk it through

On the call we look at where your buyers already talk and the searches worth owning, and tell you straight if it's a fit.

  3. Step 3: Approve the first drafts

We write, post and moderate. You sign off each week's drafts and see what ranks and what AI answers cite.

Good fit, bad fit

Reddit only works where a real conversation already exists. We can earn you a place in it. We can't invent it, so we check before taking your money.

Someone on the team signs off drafts
Nobody in the category discusses the problem at all
Buyers already debate it, even if the brand isn't mentioned

FAQs

How is this different from just posting on Reddit?

Posting hopes a thread sticks. Owning a subreddit means the threads, the community and the citation path are all yours, and nothing gets removed by someone else's mods. Across our clients, a thread in an owned sub is cited 24 times on average against 7 elsewhere.

How are AI citations tracked?

In Promptwatch, reported monthly: which answers cite your threads, on which prompts, week over week.

What does it cost?

The subreddit engagement starts at $5,000 a month. See the pricing page for what's included.
