Research. 70 "best X" pages behind 20 hospitality buyer searches
Who vouches for hospitality AI.
AI assistants build their shortlists from Google's "best X" roundups, review sites and Reddit. We read every roundup ranking for 20 hotel and vacation-rental buyer searches. Most listings are vendors writing about each other. The independent layer is thin, and three hotel brands own most of it.

What 70 roundups showed
We ran 20 US Google searches a hotel or vacation-rental buyer would type: guest messaging, hotel chatbots, AI concierge, AI voice and receptionist, upselling, AI for Airbnb hosts, and "alternatives" searches for Canary, HiJiffy, Akia, Enso Connect and Conduit. From the top 10 results we read 79 pages. 70 were roundups, alternatives or comparison pages. For each one we recorded who wrote it and which products it listed, in order.
- Vendors list each other. The seven most-listed brands have 141 listings between them: 110 on other vendors' blogs, 22 on independent publishers and review sites, 9 on the brand's own blog.
- The independent layer is where the hotel leaders pull away. Canary has 6 independent listings, Duve 5, HiJiffy 4. Everyone else in the top seven has 2 or fewer.
- Hotel Tech Report is the page set that matters most for hotels. It ranks top 3 for four of the hotel searches, and its lists keep naming Canary, Duve and HiJiffy, the vendors with hundreds of reviews there (1,593, 834 and 193).
- Your own blog inflates the count, not the standing. Conduit gets 7 of its 22 listings from its own posts, each ranking itself #1. Take them out and it drops from 4th to 6th.
- Reddit barely covers the category. We found 19 threads asking a buyer question. Canary and Hospitable are discussed in 9 or more threads each, Duve and HiJiffy in 3.
- "Alternatives" pages are written by rivals. Of 7 pages ranking for "Conduit alternatives", 5 are competitors' blogs and the other 2 are G2 and Capterra.
Roundup listings, by who wrote the page
On raw count, four brands sit close together. Split by author, they don't. In our Canada study, independent and review-site listings were where the top-3 gap in AI answers sat, and a company's own comparison pages did not predict AI visibility on their own.

- Conduit's own posts rank it #1 every time. Without them its average position slips from 4.5 to about 6.
- Conduit's two independent listings are both vacation-rental pages: The CEO Host (as "HostAI", #2) and BNB Calc (#5). On the hotel side it has none.
