The short answer

r/whoop asks for an account that is 30 days old or has 100 karma, whichever you reach first, and AutoModerator says so in plain words. Past that it is an easy room: about 94% of posts in our sample stayed up. Every post carries a flair, most are a short question or a screenshot of your data, and comparisons with an Apple Watch or a Garmin are sent to megathreads. Referral links for free months get you banned.

Who posts here

Knowledge levelBeginner to intermediate

Many posters are new owners asking what a number means, which plan to buy or why recovery was low after nine hours of sleep, and they get patient answers. Terms like HRV, RHR and strain are used without explanation, but the wiki defines them and a rule asks you to read it first. More involved threads on heart rate zones, training load and journal correlations sit alongside the basics without friction.

  • New and prospective owners asking which membership to buy and what to expect in the first weeks.
  • Amateur athletes, including runners, cyclists, triathletes and gym regulars, checking their numbers against other people's.
  • Long-time members with multi-year streaks, some of them openly weighing up whether to renew.
  • People using the data to manage sleep, illness, pregnancy or a lifestyle change.
  • Students and builders of companion apps looking for opinions or testers, with mixed results.

What AutoModerator says

The moderators' bot leaves these messages on posts. They are the closest thing to an official statement of the thresholds.

But due to the repetitive posts, we request you comment with your experience and interact with others on the Skin Rash from WHOOP Device [Megathread] (Updated Bi-Annually) HERE which is now a Subreddit Rule. If you believe your post to be an outlier and not relevant to the megathread, request permission from the Moderators Here to be approved to post.

The culture

r/whoop is an owners' forum with about 160,000 members and around 23 posts a day. Posts split almost evenly between text and images, and the image is nearly always a screenshot from the app: a recovery score, a sleep chart, a Whoop Age result. The median post is under 50 words and about 39% of titles are questions. People post a number and ask whether it is normal.

The tone is friendly and a bit confessional. A 1% recovery after a fever or a night out is posted as a joke on yourself, and replies are other people sharing their own worst score. Whoop Age threads fill up with members comparing how many years older or younger the app says they are. Practical threads sit alongside: band fit, bicep band accuracy, a broken charger, a streak about to end on holiday and a request to borrow a charger in whatever city the poster is stuck in.

The running argument is about value. Members question the subscription price, the in-app upsells and the AI coach, and some say they will not renew. The mods allow this and keep a standing complaints megathread. What they do not allow is the same comparison question over and over, which is why rival device posts are routed away.

What lands

  • A screenshot with a clear question, such as whether auto-set heart rate zones look too high for your age and training.
  • A Whoop Age result posted with a plea for help. The top post in the sample was one of these, with about 65 comments.
  • A hands-on modification or setup tip, like reworking the strap for running.
  • News about the company itself, which drew one of the longest threads in the sample.
  • A personal result tied to a change in habit: a first full week of green recoveries, or data that lined up with a food intolerance.

What gets removed or ignored

  • Comparison and switching posts involving an Apple Watch or a Garmin. Most moderator removals in the sample are these, and AutoModerator points to the megathread.
  • Referral links and reviews that end with a free trial offer.
  • Buying and selling posts for devices.
  • A post from someone who built a small app around Whoop data and wanted testers.
  • Posts from accounts under 30 days old with less than 100 karma, and skin irritation posts, which go to their own megathread.

The unwritten rules

  • Scores are modest. The best post in the sample has about 80 points, and a typical one gets a handful of votes and around seven comments. Replies matter more than upvotes here.
  • Add a sentence to every screenshot. A bare image with a vague title still gets answers, but the first reply is often someone asking what you want to know.
  • Criticising the company is normal and not treated as disloyalty. Politics is not welcome, and the rules say so.
  • Mention how you train. Answers about recovery and strain change a lot depending on whether you lift, run or do endurance events.
  • Surveys dressed as questions get noticed. One poster in the sample deleted a survey-style post and came back with a plain question and an explanation of who they were.

Self-promotion

There is no rule titled self-promotion. What exists is narrower and harsher: the wiki says posting an affiliate link for a free month gets the post deleted as spam and the account banned, possibly for good, and a rule says everything must relate directly to Whoop. In practice the mods also remove posts selling devices and at least one post recruiting testers for a companion app. Sharing something you made is safer when it is a method people can use without you, like a way to test whether late dinners affect your own recovery, with no link attached.

Common questions

How much karma do you need to post in r/whoop?

AutoModerator states it: a minimum account age of 30 days or 100 karma, whichever comes first. If your account is older than 30 days you can post without the karma, and if you have 100 karma you can post from a newer account.

Can I promote my app or product in r/whoop?

Not safely. Referral and affiliate links lead to a ban, according to the wiki. Posts selling devices and a post looking for testers for a Whoop-related app were removed by moderators in our sample. Posts must relate directly to Whoop, and the ones that stay up are questions, data and personal experience.

Why was my Whoop vs Garmin or Apple Watch post removed?

Because those comparisons have their own megathreads. AutoModerator redirects any post comparing Whoop with an Apple Watch or a Garmin to stop repeat threads, and moderators remove ones that slip through. Put your question in the megathread.

What kind of posts work in r/whoop?

Short questions with a screenshot of your data and a line of context. About 44% of posts use the Question flair, the typical post is under 50 words, and around 94% of posts in our sample stayed up. Whoop Age results, odd recovery scores and band or charger problems get the most replies.

Data as of October 4, 2026. Numbers come from public Reddit data (the Arctic Shift archive and GummySearch) sampled on this date. Removal share counts posts taken down by moderators, AutoModerator or Reddit's own filters. Banner and icon belong to the community. Moderators change rules without notice, so treat the sidebar as the final word.
