The short answer

r/femalelivingspace publishes no karma or account age requirement, and our data has no AutoModerator messages to suggest one. What you need is a photo of a real room and a flair. About 87% of posts are images, every recent post is flaired, and moderators removed almost nothing by hand in our sample. Reddit's own filters did remove roughly a quarter of posts, so a new or thin account can still vanish without a word. The room is kind, quick with practical decorating advice, and has a written ban on advertising.

Who posts here

Knowledge levelBeginner

Most posts come from people furnishing a first or first solo home who say outright that they are lost. Replies explain the basics without sneering: the rug is too small, hang the curtains higher, add lamps at different heights. No design vocabulary is expected, and a vague "how do I make this cozy" post gets real answers.

  • Women setting up a first apartment or a first place alone, often after a move or a breakup.
  • Renters working around things they cannot change, like blinds, flooring and wall colour.
  • People showing off a finished space they are proud of, sometimes after years of getting there.
  • Hobbyist decorators who answer in every thread with rug sizes, lighting and layout fixes.
  • The occasional man asking for advice he could not get elsewhere, which some regulars push back on.

The rules, in the mods' words

  1. 1

    Above all, be kind.

Above All, Be Kind. Remember the human behind the computer. Racist, Sexist, Transphobic, Homophobic, and otherwise bigoted language will not be tolerated.

  2. 2

Feedback should be constructive and solution focused.

Feedback should be constructive and solution focused. Simply saying that you don't like something or that something is terrible does not mean it is feedback that the community can use.

  3. 3

Text posts and image posts are allowed, but all direct-linked images must use Imgur/Reddit.

Text posts and image posts are allowed, but all images must use imgur. Other photo hosting may not always be secure.

  4. 4

No Advertising, Surveys, or calls for Content without requesting permission from a moderator.

No Advertising, Surveys, or calls for Content. Please message the mods if you have a greater question you want to ask the community that is not living space related. We're not necessarily against promoting your own content (e.g. blogs), but we will ban/delete with prejudice. Posting flexispot desks, sunset lamps etc will result in a ban, and a report to site wide admins.

  5. 5

No memes, jokes, or low effort content.

No memes, jokes, or low effort content. Purposely messy rooms, reaction images, or memes of any kind will be tolerated.

  6. 6

    No AI images allowed.

No AI images allowed. This sub is for real life people who live in real life spaces-- not for inspo, generated or otherwise.

The culture

r/femalelivingspace is a photo subreddit about real homes. People post their apartment, bedroom or trailer in the woods, and either ask for help or just show it. It runs at about 25 posts a day and a typical post gets 15 comments.

There are two main kinds of post. The first is the help request: a few photos of a room that feels off, with around 60 words on what has to stay and what the poster wants it to feel like. HELP, critique and question flairs together make up more than half of posts. The second is the tour, which is where the big scores are. The top posts in our data are all tours of small, warm, personal spaces, and the best of them passed 4,900 points.

The tour flair comes in two versions, one open to feedback and one that says no advice wanted, and people respect the difference. Comments are short, around 14 words, and split between compliments and specific fixes. The live irritations are AI and men. Moderators remove AI content with a stock note that the subreddit is for real people in real spaces, and a man posting for validation after already doing well elsewhere got told this is not what the room is for.

What lands

  • A tour of a small space with obvious personality: a tiny cosy flat, a plant-filled corner, a lime washed room full of lamps.
  • A milestone with the photos, such as a first solo apartment, or living alone for the first time in midlife.
  • A help post that names the constraint: renting, a sofa that has to stay, a window that cannot take a curtain rod.
  • An update showing what you changed after taking the room's advice, with the before picture included.
  • An open shopping question the whole room can answer, like where people are actually buying couches.

What gets removed or ignored

  • AI generated images or designs. The moderators post a removal note saying no AI content is allowed.
  • Advertising, surveys and calls for content posted without permission. The rule names specific product types, such as standing desks and sunset lamps, as ban on sight.
  • Memes, jokes, reaction images and deliberately messy rooms, which the rules class as low effort.
  • Hand removals are rare, well under 1% of our sample. Reddit's own filters took about 24%, and our data does not show why. Several kept posts were clearly second or third attempts at the same post.

The unwritten rules

  • Pick the tour flair honestly. If you choose no advice wanted, people will only compliment. If you choose open to feedback, expect to hear about your rug.
  • Say what cannot change. Renters who mention the landlord's blinds get workable suggestions and not a list of things to rip out.
  • Compliment before you critique. Even blunt advice here usually opens or closes with something kind.
  • Advice is generic by habit: a bigger rug, taller curtains, larger art, warm lamps. Brand names come up when someone asks where a piece is from, not before.
  • Personal context is welcome. Posts that mention a divorce, a recovery or a long wait for a place of your own get the warmest replies.

Self-promotion

The rule bans advertising, surveys and calls for content unless a moderator has agreed to it. It adds that the mods are not necessarily against you promoting your own content, such as a blog, but that they will ban and delete with prejudice, and that posting certain gadget brands gets a ban and a report to Reddit's admins. In practice product talk happens in the comments, when someone asks where a desk or lamp came from and the owner answers. About 7% of comments carry a link. A post built around a product is the thing the rule exists to stop.

Common questions

How much karma do you need to post in r/femalelivingspace?

No karma or account age requirement is published, and we found no AutoModerator message that mentions one. Moderators removed almost nothing by hand in our sample. Reddit's own filters removed about 24% of posts, which tends to hit new accounts, so if your post disappears with no message that is the likely cause.

Can I promote my products or blog in r/femalelivingspace?

Not without asking the moderators first. The rules ban advertising, surveys and calls for content, and warn that promotion is deleted and banned with prejudice. Naming where something came from when another member asks is normal and fine.

Can men post in r/femalelivingspace?

The rules do not forbid it, and a man asking for decorating help had his post stay up in our sample. The subreddit describes itself as a place for women's living spaces, though, and commenters object when a man seems to be collecting compliments. If you post, ask a real question.

What should I post in r/femalelivingspace?

Photos of a real space you live in, with a flair. Tours of small, personal homes score highest. Help posts get the most advice when you say what you want the room to feel like and what has to stay. AI images, memes and inspiration pictures are not allowed.

Data as of October 4, 2026. Numbers come from public Reddit data (the Arctic Shift archive and GummySearch) sampled on this date. Removal share counts posts taken down by moderators, AutoModerator or Reddit's own filters. Banner and icon belong to the community. Moderators change rules without notice, so treat the sidebar as the final word.
