The short answer
r/sportsbetting publishes no karma or account age requirement, but AutoModerator holds a fair share of posts for moderator review: about 11% in our sample, with Reddit's own filters taking another 9%. The standard post is a screenshot of a bet slip with a four word title and a Parlay flair. Any mention of Discord or Telegram gets a post or comment removed. At roughly 360 posts a day, most slips get a couple of comments and scroll away.
Who posts here
Posts are casual bettors sharing slips, celebrating or venting. Nobody is asked to justify a pick with numbers, and basic questions about why a bet did not settle or whether one will be voided get straight answers in the comments. The one floor is the low-effort rule: a text question you could answer with a quick search can be removed, and the wiki covers bet types and terms for that reason.
- Recreational bettors posting small-stake parlays and long shots, mostly on NFL Sundays.
- People sharing a win, or a loss that missed by one leg, for sympathy or bragging rights.
- Regular pick posters who publish daily plays and keep a running record.
- Newer bettors asking how a cash out, a void or a settlement rule works.
- Followers looking for slips to copy, known here as tailing.

The rules, in the mods' words
- 1
Play nice
Please keep the discussion civil. Your opinions and some lighthearted banter are fine, but don't let it get personal or excessive. Follow Reddiquette when voting and posting.
- 2
No Spam
Posting multiple threads a day may be considered excessive. This includes non-relevant posts, shilling your YouTube channel, excessive shit-posting, and continuing to post content after you've been specifically warned not to by the mod team. Additionally, please do not advertise, promote, or discuss your discord or other outside groups.
- 3
Low-Effort Rule
Low-effort text posts are not allowed on this sub. How do you know if your post will be classified as such? Ask the following question. Can my question be answered by a quick Google search? This rule will not apply to reporting of news/results.
These are the rules as archived in January 2025. Rules change. Check the sidebar before you post.
The culture
r/sportsbetting has close to 600,000 members and moves at about 360 posts a day. More than 80% of posts are images, and almost all of those are screenshots of a bet slip: a parlay about to start, a ticket that just cashed, or one that died on the last leg. The median post is 10 words and the median title is 4. This is a place to show your slip, not to write about it.
The mood follows the games. On a football Sunday the feed is a mix of people celebrating, people cursing a running back who never got the ball, and people asking whether a slip that looks like it won will really pay. Comments are short, around 8 words, and often another screenshot in reply. Swearing is normal. Winners get congratulated and asked why they did not post the pick earlier so others could tail it.
The steady argument is about cashing out. Someone posts a slip they cashed out early that then would have hit, and the replies split between sympathy and telling them never to cash out. Complaints that a result was a scam or a script also turn up daily and are treated as venting, not as claims anyone needs to rebut.
What lands
- A winning slip with a big multiple, posted right after it settles, with a line about how close it was.
- A bad beat: a parlay that lost by one leg or a couple of yards. These get more replies than most wins.
- A cash out you regret, with both tickets shown. People will tell you what they would have done.
- A settlement oddity, such as a leg graded as a win when it lost, asked as a real question with the slip attached.
- Picks posted before the game starts, so people can tail them, with a follow-up when they land.
What gets removed or ignored
- Anything mentioning Discord or Telegram. AutoModerator removes these on sight, and it is the most common removal message after the review hold.
- Posts held for moderator review. About 11% of the sample sat in that queue, with a reminder to stay positive and respectful.
- Promotion of a YouTube channel, a picks group or any outside community, which the spam rule names directly.
- Text questions that a quick search would answer, under the low-effort rule.
- Too many threads from one account in a day.
The unwritten rules
- Do not expect upvotes. Most posts sit at a point or two with a couple of comments. The feed moves too fast for much to rise.
- The slip is the post. A pick with no screenshot, or a long written analysis, is the unusual format here.
- If you post picks, post the losers too. Regulars who share a record after a good day get asked about the bad ones.
- An automated bot replies to many slips with a rebuilt betslip link. It is part of the furniture, so do not mistake it for a person.
- Banter is fine, getting personal is not. The first rule is about keeping it civil, and the review message repeats it.
Self-promotion
The spam rule bans advertising, promoting or even discussing a Discord or other outside group, and names shilling a YouTube channel as an example. AutoModerator enforces the Discord and Telegram part by keyword, in comments as well as posts. In practice people who post free picks every day are tolerated as long as the picks are in the post itself and nothing points off Reddit. The moment a slip comes with an invitation to a group or a paid service, it goes.

Common questions
How much karma do you need to post in r/sportsbetting?
The moderators do not publish a number. AutoModerator holds some posts for manual review without explaining why, and about 11% of posts in our sample were held that way, with a further 9% removed by Reddit's filters. Around 78% of posts stayed up.
Can I promote my picks service or Discord in r/sportsbetting?
No. The rules say not to advertise, promote or discuss a Discord or other outside group, and AutoModerator removes posts and comments that mention Discord or Telegram. Sharing free picks as a bet slip in the post is fine. Pointing people somewhere else is not.
What kind of posts work in r/sportsbetting?
A screenshot of a bet slip with a short title and the right flair. About 82% of posts are images and Parlay is the flair on more than half of them. Wins, near misses and questions about how a bet settled get the most replies.
Why is my r/sportsbetting post not showing up?
It was probably held for moderator review, which AutoModerator does to a share of posts, or caught by Reddit's spam filter. A mention of Discord or Telegram removes it outright. Posting several threads in one day can also count as spam under the rules.
Data as of October 4, 2026. Numbers come from public Reddit data (the Arctic Shift archive and GummySearch) sampled on this date. Removal share counts posts taken down by moderators, AutoModerator or Reddit's own filters. Banner and icon belong to the community. Moderators change rules without notice, so treat the sidebar as the final word.
