The short answer
r/woocommerce publishes no karma or account age requirement, but filtering is real: about a quarter of posts in our sample were removed by Reddit's filters and another 6% were held by AutoModerator. Every post is a text post with a flair, usually a troubleshooting question or a request for a plugin recommendation. Promotion is banned in posts and comments, including requests for beta testers. The replies are long and specific, so bring your setup details.
Who posts here
Most threads assume you already run a store and know your way around the WordPress admin. People mention Action Scheduler, WP-Cron, HPOS, object caching and server logs without explaining them, and answers often ask you to go and measure something before guessing. Simple questions do get answered and there is a Getting started flair, but a one-line post with no detail gets short replies or none.
- Store owners with a live shop and a specific problem: slow checkout, failed payments, stock alerts, shipping rules.
- Freelancers and agency developers who build and maintain stores for clients.
- Plugin developers, some disclosing it, asking what store owners want or sharing what they have learned.
- People setting up a first store and choosing a payment gateway or host.
- Owners weighing a move to or from another platform.

The rules, in the mods' words
- 1
Absolutely no promotional material
We do not allow any form of promotional content in posts or comments. This includes but is not limited to advertisements, self-promotion, or any content intended to market or sell products/services. This also includes solicitations for alpha/beta testing. Accounts dedicated to promoting specific plugins will not be permitted. Posts related to market research and identifying the needs of WooCommerce users are permitted.
- 2
Relevant plugin recommendations permitted in comments only
We encourage sharing helpful plugins that extend WooCommerce's functionality. However, please do so only in response to relevant questions or discussions in the comments. Plugins recommended in posts are strongly discouraged as they may be considered promotional material. Links are generally permitted, but they may be held for moderation. Affiliate links and links to unscrupulous websites are not permitted.
- 3
No off-topic posts
This subreddit is focused on WooCommerce, its features, integrations, and best practices. Please ensure that all posts and discussions are related to WooCommerce. Off-topic content, including posts about unrelated platforms or general ecommerce topics, may be removed to keep the community focused and helpful. Discussions about WooCommerce and how it compares to other platforms is permitted and encouraged.
- 4
Be friendly
This is a place for friendly discussions. Please be kind.
These are the rules as archived in January 2025. Rules change. Check the sidebar before you post.
The culture
r/woocommerce is a working help forum of about 52,000 members and roughly six posts a day. It is slow enough that most posts get read: the median post has 12 comments. Every post is text, the median runs to about 95 words, and around a third of titles are questions.
The answers are the draw. The median comment is about 55 words, which is long for Reddit, and the good ones read like a consultant's notes: check which scheduled actions are overdue, time each step of checkout separately, look at the access logs by URL and user agent before blaming one component. Performance is the recurring subject, especially background job queues, cron and cheap shared hosting. Payments, shipping rates, stock management and search plugins fill out the rest.
The tension is between a no-promotion rule and a community full of people who build plugins for a living. Developers are welcome when they come to learn or to help, and the rules explicitly allow market research. They are not welcome when the post is the pitch. A lot of posts sit close to that line, and the reaction depends on whether there is a real question underneath.
What lands
- A troubleshooting post with numbers: order volume, hosting plan, what the logs show, what you have ruled out. A store owner describing thousands of add-to-cart requests in an hour drew 30 comments.
- An AMA from someone building a core part of the WooCommerce product itself. That was the top post in the sample, with 45 comments.
- A plugin recommendation request that describes the actual need, such as bundles with shared stock or creating orders from customers' purchase order files.
- A write-up of real gotchas from client work, like cache settings that quietly break the cart.
- Open questions to other store owners about how they handle a routine job: database cleanup, restocking with long supplier lead times.
What gets removed or ignored
- Posts caught by Reddit's own filters, about 24% of the sample. This is by far the largest group and happens before any moderator is involved.
- Posts held by AutoModerator for review, about 6%. The rules say links can trigger this.
- Promotional posts and comments, including launch announcements and requests for testers, under the first rule.
- Plugin recommendations made in a post instead of in reply to a question. The rules call these strongly discouraged.
- Off-topic posts about other platforms or ecommerce in general with no WooCommerce angle.
The unwritten rules
- Disclose it if you build plugins. Several posts that stayed up open with a line saying the author makes a tool in this area and is not linking it.
- Recommend your own plugin only in a comment, only when it answers the question, and say it is yours. That is the path the rules leave open.
- Give your stack: host type, order volume, theme, the plugins involved. The first replies to a thin post are requests for exactly that.
- Expect people to push back on the premise. Regulars will tell you that you skipped diagnosis, or that your hosting is too cheap for your order volume.
- A one-line question such as asking for the best host gets little. The same question with your traffic and budget gets a thread.
Self-promotion
The rule is titled as an absolute: no promotional material in posts or comments, no solicitations for alpha or beta testing, and no accounts dedicated to promoting a plugin. Two carve-outs matter. Market research posts that try to identify what WooCommerce users need are permitted, and plugin recommendations are allowed in comments when they answer a relevant question. In practice developers use both. Posts asking store owners how they handle a workflow stay up, as do disclosed, link-free write-ups. Some posts that announce a plugin with a link also stayed up in our sample, so enforcement is not total, but with close to a third of posts not surviving it is a poor bet.

Common questions
How much karma do you need to post in r/woocommerce?
No number is published and there are no AutoModerator messages in our data that state one. About 68% of sampled posts stayed up. Roughly 24% were removed by Reddit's filters and about 6% were held by AutoModerator, so an established account has a better chance than a new one.
Can I promote my plugin in r/woocommerce?
Not in a post. The rules ban all promotional content in posts and comments, including requests for beta testers, and do not permit accounts dedicated to one plugin. You can recommend a relevant plugin in a comment when someone asks for one, and market research questions about what store owners need are allowed.
Can I post links in r/woocommerce?
Yes, with limits. The rules say links are generally permitted but may be held for moderation, and affiliate links are not allowed. About 7% of comments in our sample include a link. Every post in the sample is a text post.
What kind of posts work in r/woocommerce?
Specific questions with detail. Troubleshooting, plugin recommendation requests and how-to questions make up about two thirds of posts. Threads that state the hosting, order volume and what has been tried get long, technical replies, and the median post gets 12 comments.
Data as of October 4, 2026. Numbers come from public Reddit data (the Arctic Shift archive and GummySearch) sampled on this date. Removal share counts posts taken down by moderators, AutoModerator or Reddit's own filters. Banner and icon belong to the community. Moderators change rules without notice, so treat the sidebar as the final word.
