The short answer

r/Ozempic holds posts from accounts with low post karma or a new account for moderator review. The threshold is not published, and about one post in five in our sample was held this way, with Reddit's filters taking roughly another 15%. Nearly every post carries a flair, and about 80% are Questions. The room is supportive, asks you not to give or ask for medical advice, and bans self-promotion, referral links and anything about buying medication from unlicensed sellers.

Who posts here

Knowledge levelBeginner

Most posts are from people a few weeks or months in asking whether a symptom, a stall or a pen issue is normal. Replies explain things plainly and the welcome message points newcomers to search rather than scolding them. Nothing here is pitched too low, and the rules describe the place as a support forum where everyone is at a different point.

  • People with type 2 diabetes who take it for blood sugar and are watching their A1C as much as their weight.
  • People taking it for weight loss, often with PCOS or insulin resistance in the picture.
  • New starters worried about side effects, injections and what the first doses feel like.
  • Long-term users posting success photos, maintenance questions and switches to other GLP-1 drugs.
  • Sellers and spammers, who mostly get stopped at the karma and account age gate.

The rules, in the mods' words

  1. 1

    Be civil to all posters

Please be civil to all posters. This is a user support forum and everyone is at a different point in their experience. Be kind.

  2. 2

    No bullying or harassment

All posters deserve a user support subreddit free from bullying and harassment. Do not engage in these behaviors.

  3. 3

Do not private message someone without advance permission

Please obtain permission before sending another poster a Direct Message. This not only alerts the recipient that they are being contacted, but allows all posters to feel safe and secure that all private messaging is wanted and is by consent.

  4. 4

Do not share other people's personal information

Do not share other members' personal and identifying information on this subreddit. No doxxing. Do not collect personal and identifying information from this board to share with other subreddits/sites.

  5. 5

Do not sell or trade prescription medication illegally

Selling, including reselling or trading, prescription medications on Reddit is forbidden.

  6. 6

Do not seek to obtain medicine illegally

Please do not attempt, or solicit, the purchase of prescription medications from unlicensed individuals and businesses.

  7. 7

No body, lifestyle, or diet shaming

This subreddit should be considered a safe space for all posters. Do not engage in behavior to shame, harass, or ridicule other posters.

  8. 8

No posts pitting diabetic patients against weight loss only patients

This is a user support forum to engage in topics related to Ozempic/Semaglutide medications. This subreddit is not the place to determine a patient's suitability for access, and use, of these medications; that is a topic solely between a patient and their medical provider.

  9. 9

    No spam/low effort posts

Please do not create spam or "low effort" posts in this subreddit. Spam is typically unsolicited information distributed in bulk and is generally understood. Examples of "low effort" posts are posts with nothing but links to news articles, products, or services that while they may be on topic they do not contain insight, opinions, or opening discussion from the Original Poster.

These are the rules as archived in January 2025. Rules change. Check the sidebar before you post.

The culture

r/Ozempic has about 149,000 members and around 16 posts a day. The sidebar is a few jokey lines and the wiki page still says it is coming soon, so the rules list and AutoModerator do the work. The rules call it a user support forum and ask for kindness more than once.

Day to day it is a question board. About 89% of posts are text, most flaired Question, and they run about 90 words: what dose, how long, what is happening, is this normal. Pen problems, food noise coming back, stalls, side effects that hit at a new dose and insurance changes come up constantly. The top of the sub is Success Stories, before and after photos with weights and a few lines about what changed, and they collect the most upvotes by far.

The fault line is who deserves the drug. The rules ban posts pitting diabetic patients against people who take it for weight loss, and there is a separate rule against body, lifestyle and diet shaming. When outsiders' judgement comes up, the comments close ranks around the person being judged.

What lands

  • Success Stories posts with start and current weight, time on the drug and a non-scale win, like fitting in an airline seat or wearing the same outfit a size down.
  • Detailed side effect questions that give dose, timeline and what has already been tried.
  • Questions with a human angle, such as how to handle family comments about weight loss at a holiday dinner. These pull long reply threads.
  • Practical write-ups of what helped with bad side effects, posted as personal experience rather than instructions.

What gets removed or ignored

  • Posts from low karma or new accounts, which AutoModerator holds for a moderator. About 20% of posts in our sample were held this way.
  • Posts caught by Reddit's own filters, about 15% of the sample.
  • Selling, reselling or trading medication, and trying to buy it from unlicensed sellers.
  • Bare links to articles, products or services with no comment from the poster.
  • Self-promotion, referral links and videos posted for views.

The unwritten rules

  • Pick the right flair. Question is the default, and Success Stories is where photos go.
  • Frame things as your own experience. Commenters push back on advice that tells someone to mislead their doctor.
  • Do not compare whose reason for taking it is more valid. It breaks a rule and the room will not have it.
  • Comments are short, around 28 words, and almost never carry a link. A link in a reply stands out.
  • Vendor and provider names do turn up in questions and comments. That does not make recommending one a good idea for a newcomer, and buying from unlicensed sellers is against the rules.

Self-promotion

The welcome message bans self-promotion and monetization outright, naming videos and referral links, and the rules treat bare product links as low effort spam. In practice the karma and account age hold is the main defence: a new account posting a product never reaches the feed without a moderator's approval. An established member sharing a personal experience is welcome. Anything that reads like a pitch for a provider or product has no route in.

Common questions

How much karma do you need to post in r/Ozempic?

The number is not published. AutoModerator holds posts from accounts with low post karma, and from new accounts, for a moderator to review. About one post in five in our sample was held this way. Build some post karma elsewhere on Reddit first, or expect a wait.

Can I promote a product or service in r/Ozempic?

No. The welcome message bans self-promotion, monetization, videos for views and referral links, and the rules count bare links to products or services as low effort spam. Selling medication or helping people buy it from unlicensed sellers is banned too.

Why is my r/Ozempic post awaiting moderator approval?

Almost always because your account has low post karma or is new. AutoModerator holds those posts and says a moderator will review them shortly. It is a hold, not a removal.

Can you ask for medical advice in r/Ozempic?

Not directly. The welcome message says not to give or ask for medical advice and to ask your doctor. Asking whether others have had the same experience is fine, and that is how most posts here are written.

Data as of October 15, 2026. Numbers come from public Reddit data (the Arctic Shift archive and GummySearch) sampled on this date. Removal share counts posts taken down by moderators, AutoModerator or Reddit's own filters. Banner and icon belong to the community. Moderators change rules without notice, so treat the sidebar as the final word.
