The short answer
r/Semaglutide publishes no karma or account age requirement, and almost 90% of posts in our sample stayed up. The hard line is the product: the sub only discusses FDA-approved semaglutide, so anything about compounded versions, where to get it, or selling medication comes down. Moderators removed about 9% of posts by hand, more than Reddit's filters did. Post as a patient with a real question or an update, give your own details, and leave providers and sources out of it.
Who posts here
Many posts come from people on their first few weeks asking what to expect, and those get patient, friendly answers instead of a link to the search bar. Regulars talk easily about titration, stalls, food noise and switching between GLP-1 drugs, so there is a working vocabulary, but nobody is turned away for not knowing it. A basic question stays up and gets answered; it just may get fewer replies than a progress photo.
- Patients just starting a prescription who want to know what the first weeks feel like.
- Longer-term users posting progress photos, stalls and maintenance questions.
- People with type 2 diabetes or PCOS for whom weight is one part of the reason they take it.
- People dealing with insurance changes and comparing the shot with the newer pill.
- Researchers, app builders and sellers, who get a much cooler reception than patients.

What AutoModerator says
The moderators' bot leaves these messages on posts. They are the closest thing to an official statement of the thresholds.
Thanks for posting to r/semaglutide! A brief reminder about our rules. We do not permit the discussion of non-FDA approved formulations of semaglutide, nor do we permit selling or offering for sale any medication, including by private message. This is not intended to discourage discussion but merely supplement it.

The rules, in the mods' words
- 1
No compounding
We do not allow the discussion (either explicitly or when it could be the only possible interpretation) of compounded (non-FDA-approved) semaglutide, or sources for obtaining it.
- 2
No selling medication
This is not a marketplace, do not discuss selling medication (even if genuine and legally obtained).
- 3
No medical credentials
Please do not claim any medical credentials, as the moderation team has no way to verify them.
- 4
Be nice to each other
Make it a nice place in here! Everyone is welcome and at various stages on their weight loss and/or diabetes journey.
- 5
No DM's for any reason
You may not request or provide any DM contact details. If you receive an unsolicited DM from someone in this forum, please use the "report" feature on the DM in order to report it to Reddit admins. Requesting people to DM/private message/chat you in circumvention of the rules will not be tolerated.
These are the rules as archived in January 2025. Rules change. Check the sidebar before you post.
The culture
r/Semaglutide has about 205,000 members and around 19 posts a day. The sidebar ties it to the branded semaglutide products, and the description says outright that compounded formulations are not discussed. In practice it is a patient support board: people asking whether a side effect is normal, why the scale has not moved, or what happens when insurance stops paying.
Two formats dominate. The everyday post is a short text question, around 90 words, usually with the poster's dose, timeline and weight. The top of the sub is progress photos: before and after shots with a start weight, a current weight and a few lines about how life has changed. Those pull hundreds of upvotes and a lot of congratulations. About 63% of posts are text, 28% links (mostly crossposts) and 9% images.
The live tension is the compounding ban. Plenty of members came from or are moving to cheaper routes, and posts and comments keep brushing against the rule, which is why a lot of otherwise ordinary looking posts end up removed. Side effect worries are the other constant thread: gut problems, vision, mood and hair loss all come up, and people take them seriously.
What lands
- Progress photos with honest numbers: start weight, current weight, how long it took and what else changed, like being able to kneel down or travel comfortably.
- Side effect questions asked as "how bad is yours", which let the whole room compare notes.
- First-week posts that give age, height, weight and dose and ask what to expect. They get kind, practical replies.
- Slow progress stories. A post about losing weight gradually over two years is received as warmly as a dramatic one.
What gets removed or ignored
- Anything about compounded semaglutide, including questions that only make sense if you are on it, and posts comparing online providers that sell it.
- Questions about peptide research sites, vendor purity or batch quality.
- Research surveys. A student questionnaire was removed, and members called out a poster who was mining side effect threads without saying why.
- Many ordinary looking patient posts, about stalls, dose changes or side effects, were also removed by moderators. The removed text is not visible, and the likeliest reason is a mention of where the drug came from.
The unwritten rules
- Give your numbers. Dose, weeks on it, start weight and what you are eating. Without them the replies are guesses.
- Do not name where you get your medication. Even a passing mention of a provider can sink an otherwise fine post.
- Be kind about bodies. The rules ask for it and the comments enforce it; people here are at very different stages and many have been judged before.
- Comments are short, around 23 words, and almost never carry links. A link in a reply looks like a pitch.
- If you are researching or building something, say so in the post. Members check profiles, and a hidden motive gets pointed out.
Self-promotion
There is no written self-promotion rule, but the rules ban selling medication, ban DMs for any reason, and ban talk of compounded sources, which covers most of what a brand in this space would want to post. Patient-facing tools sometimes stay up when the maker says plainly that they built it and asks for criticism. Surveys, provider comparisons and anything that reads like a referral are removed or picked apart in the comments. The safest way in is to answer questions from experience and leave products out.

Common questions
How much karma do you need to post in r/Semaglutide?
No number is published and we saw no karma filter from AutoModerator. About 88% of posts in our sample stayed up. What gets posts removed here is the topic, mainly compounded semaglutide and selling medication, not account karma.
Can I promote a product or service in r/Semaglutide?
Mostly no. Selling medication and DMs are banned outright, compounded sources are banned, and posts comparing providers are removed. A free tool posted openly by its maker, asking for feedback, can survive. Surveys and disguised recommendations usually do not.
Can you talk about compounded semaglutide in r/Semaglutide?
No. The sub is for FDA-approved semaglutide only, and the rule covers indirect references and anything about where to get compounded versions. Many removed posts in our sample look like ordinary patient questions, which suggests the mods act on passing mentions too.
What kind of posts do well in r/Semaglutide?
Progress photos with start and current weight and a short story are the most upvoted by far. Day to day, the sub runs on short text questions about side effects, stalls and dose changes, with the poster's own details included.
Data as of October 15, 2026. Numbers come from public Reddit data (the Arctic Shift archive and GummySearch) sampled on this date. Removal share counts posts taken down by moderators, AutoModerator or Reddit's own filters. Banner and icon belong to the community. Moderators change rules without notice, so treat the sidebar as the final word.
